Adopt SmartEngine™ to Promote Business Recycling
SWACO (OH) and Tri-County Solid
Waste District (AR) Are Early Adopters of Next-Generation
Tool
(Fairfax,
VA – January 3, 2005) - Gershman,
Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) announced today that the
Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) and the Tri-County
Solid Waste District in Northwest Arkansas recently signed
up to use the SmartEngine™ Online Waste Audit &
Business Recycling Promotion tool as part of their program
to promote and increase commercial recycling in their communities.
SWACO is one of 52 solid waste
districts in Ohio and has become a catalyst for recycling
and reuse programs in Franklin County which includes the City
of Columbus. The SWACO service area has a population of over
1,069,000 and includes more than 28,000 businesses. The Tri-County
Solid Waste District is one of 16 regional districts in Arkansas
and covers the Northwest Arkansas Counties of Benton, Madison
and Washington. With a population of over 325,000, the district
is home to more than 8,600 businesses.
The patented SmartEngine™
is the first Web-based waste auditing technology that public
solid waste agencies can seamlessly integrate to their Web
sites to both promote increased recycling as well as conduct
an online audit of a property’s solid waste practices
and service charges. A unique report, using local waste collection
services/cost data and local recycling service providers to
evaluate recycling options for participating businesses, is
generated for each business. This typically indicates quantities
of recyclables and cost savings, all geared to help increase
recycling. SmartEngine™ can reach thousand of business
in the community at a fraction of the time and cost of doing
so with the traditional method of people physically conducting
on-site waste audits.
“As early adopters of
the SmartEngine™, both SWACO and the Tri-County Solid
Waste District are showing how proactive they are by leading
the way in what will become, we believe, an industry standard
for business recycling promotion. We are looking forward to
working with them to implement the SmartEngine™ and
integrate it to their websites,” noted Bob Brickner,
Senior Vice-President of GBB. “The traditional manual-contact
audit and leaf-letting approach is, in our opinion, an expensive
and time-consuming method! The SmartEngine™ approach
moves recycling reviews from the Stone and Iron Ages into
the Internet Age!“
In the Fall of 2004, GBB nationally
launched the current version of the SmartEngine™ at
SWANA’s WASTECON conference in Phoenix, and it is now
formally being marketed to local governments across the country.
