Conducts Pay-As-You-Throw Workshop for Georgia DCA
(Fairfax, VA – December 15,
2006) – Gershman, Brickner
& Bratton, Inc. (GBB) conducted a Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT)
workshop in October 2006 on behalf of the Office of Environmental
Management of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs
(DCA). The objective of the workshop, which was held in Atlanta
on the eve of the National Recycling Coalition Congress, was
to assist local governments in identifying and overcoming
impediments to implementing a PAYT municipal waste strategy.
The workshop, made possible by a grant from the Environmental
Protection Agency, presented current methods, costs, and case
studies from several communities that have implemented PAYT
in Georgia and other parts of the U.S. PAYT has been shown
to reduce costs for local governments, provide residents with
greater control over their own waste disposal expenses, and
increase recycling.
“Based on the feedback
we received and how lively the discussion was at various points,
I think the attendees found the workshop interesting and thought
provoking,” said Tim Bratton, GBB Senior Vice President,
“That is the ultimate goal of such events: to provide
information and generate ideas that attendees will find helpful
and take back to their respective communities.”
Mr. Bratton will be part of
a panel discussing PAYT at the Southeast Recycling Conference
& Tradeshow (SERC), to be held March 12 2007, at the Perdido
Beach Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama.
