Who conducts the GBB Seven-Point Checkup?
Mary-Jane Atwater,
GBB Principal Associate, will serve as your chief “mechanic” for
the checkup. Mary-Jane
specializes in recycling public education and outreach
and has worked for more than two decades with communities
just like yours from coast to coast. Mary-Jane will
include on the checkup team GBB staff who also have
extensive public education expertise.

About Mary-Jane Atwater, GBB Principal Associate
Mary-Jane Atwater has two decades of experience in
the solid waste management field and more than 25 years
as a public relations, marketing and communications
practitioner. Working for clients in state and
local governments, corporations, associations and non-profit
organizations, she specializes in developing innovative
and results-oriented public outreach and education
campaigns that promote recycling and environmental
best practices. Client organizations have included
Anne Arundel County, Maryland; Montgomery County, Maryland;
Plano, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Fort Worth,
Texas, as well as Coca Cola Enterprises (Recycling);
the Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority and
the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Mary-Jane
has also worked on water and wastewater projects for
the Texas Water Development Board, Iowa Department
of Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency.
Mary-Jane has been
a guest lecturer in communications and public relations
at Howard University and The George Washington University,
and she has served as a speaker on recycling and
solid waste issues at state and national conferences
since 1994. Mary-Jane
holds M.B.A and M.Ed. degrees from The George Washington
University and a B.A. cum laude from Connecticut
College. She is a member of SWANA and the Independent
Public Relations Alliance, and she serves on the board
of the Public Relations Society of America’s
National Capital Chapter. |
