The
GBB “Seven-Point Checkup”
Keep Your Recycling Program Humming |
What's
Involved in the Seven-Point Checkup?
We
first confer by phone about your program: its history,
current results, goals, and opportunities and challenges
in achieving those goals. We’ll give you
a checklist of materials to send to us, such as samples
of your public education materials and copies of any
relevant data about your program and collection results. We
next review your communications program during a half-day,
on-site meeting in your offices or facilities where,
together, we dig deeper into the elements of your program
and how they are “packaged.”
Our “Seven-Point
Checkup” covers
review and evaluation of your:
 |
#1 |
Recycling
communications plan
Do you have a plan? What are your goals and objectives? Who are your
target audiences? Have you included measurement and evaluation methods?
|
 |
#2 |
Program
budget and operations data
How has your budget changed over the past five years and how is it likely to
change in the near future? Do you have call-center data on complaints? How can
you conduct research of your target audiences on a shoestring budget?
|
 |
#3 |
Recycling
messaging
What are your recycling messages? Are your
messages compelling, captivating and persuasive?
How could you fine-tune your messages to make them
even more persuasive?
|
 |
#4 |
Public
education program components
How are you conveying your recycling messages? What methods/tactics are
you using – and what additional methods might you use? Are you taking
advantage of low-cost outreach methods and media? As your program has grown
and developed, do your brochures, website, direct mailers and program elements
still all work well together? Are there new tools that could help you achieve
your goals?
|
 |
#5 |
Recycling
outreach “packaging”
Are your brochures, website and other outreach
materials creatively designed and consistently “branded?” How
might they be improved to better align?
|
 |
#6 |
Media
relations
What kind of media coverage are you receiving? How
can you better harness the positive power of the
media?
|
 |
#7 |
Technology Are you taking advantage of the latest technologies
to make your website the “go
to” resource for information about recycling
and to get your program information to your customers? Is
your website architecture user friendly? |
